Welcome to our first blog post. We thought what better way to start the blog than our pre-travel day for our recent Walt Disney World trip in January 2022. We were staying overnight at Heathrow Airport, ready for travel the following day…
Should we stay, or should we go?
This trip had a few ‘firsts’ for us. I think we’d like to address the fact that we did not announce this trip until the day before we left. I am sure we are not alone, but in current times with having to negative test for COVID a day before travelling to the US, we did not want to make any announcements prior to us at least having this test completed. We had our test booked with Breath Assured and can’t tell you how relived we both were to see that negative test result and get the certificate emailed to us!! The lady who administered our tests was so lovely. It was now all go, time to get to the airport!! Nothing stopping us now.
We had pretty much packed everything ready, as we had to do the test only a day before our flight, we did have to be packed ready to go. That really would have been leaving it until the last moment if we hadn’t of packed. Maybe there are people out there that pack 24 hours before their flight? Let us know below if that’s you…
After checking and rechecking (for Ade) that we had everything, it was time to load up the car. We decided to drive and park at Heathrow. As it was just the two of us, we would be able to fit all the luggage in the car and would be cheaper parking at the airport than getting a Taxi. We had booked to park at the terminal, so made it pretty easy both for when we left the country and also for when we arrived back.
Yes, you can park off site that works out cheaper. We have done that before, but after a long flight can be so nice knowing that you car in in the Terminal multi storey car park. So much easier when feeling tired!!
Arriving at the Airport
We arrived at the airport, parking in Terminal 3 Short Stay Car Park, and made our way to the Hilton Garden Inn Hotel at Terminal 2 Where we were staying overnight. Have to say, it wasn’t the easiest of walks, but think that’s more to do with 2 suitcases with a mind of their own!! We got to the hotel and checked in. Such a lovely room, and view of the car park. We’re there for one night, so view is not important. I am pretty sure there are runway views from this hotel, so you could get lucky…
As we said above it was a holiday of firsts for us. One of these was us going on holiday with friends, a new experience for us. True adults Disney trip. I think that’s what we like about each trip, although we may go back to Disney World, each trip has it’s differences.
We had bought a couple of drinks with us, and wasted no time, raising a glass to the start of our holiday. Our friends had now arrived, so time for dinner.
Time for food
It was time to get some food and made our way to the hotel Restaurant. Think it was called The Apron. Service was not the fastest, but was very pleasant. Some photos below…
Now time for some drinks
After eating and feeling nicely full, we made our way to the 14th floor and the rooftop bar where we enjoyed a couple drinks before making our way back to our room for some sleep. We had a long and exciting travel day ahead of us tomorrow.
